To make Bible study a daily habit, you need to, first of all, know the benefits of reading the Bible.
But here is the truth. Most of us have jumped into the practice of reading the Bible daily without knowing the benefits first.
As a result, we have failed to keep up with the habit after a few days or months.
There will be times when Bible study will feel like a burden rather than a spiritual practice. But, despite all that you will continue with the habit after knowing the benefits of reading scripture
Here are seventeen proven benefits of reading the Bible that will encourage you to stay on track:
The Bible helps Us to Judge the Thoughts and Attitudes of the Heart
It is becoming hard for people, including Christians, to differentiate wrong from right. Today evil is glorified on social media and Television.
The world is pushing our hearts and minds to embrace things that contradict the word of God.
As a result, most of us end up being caught up between the word of God and wrong doctrines.
Fortunately, God has given us his word. The Bible will help you to judge the thoughts and attitudes of your heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
Help you know who God is
God expects us to glorify him in all that we do. But, you cannot worship God faithfully through guesswork.
First, you need to know who he is so that you can enjoy him. Second, you need to understand what pleases his heart so that you can reflect on him in your actions.
The word of God is like a guidepost. It helps you know who God is, what pleases him, and how to relate with him.
It is only through reading it regularly that you can cultivate a deeper relationship with God.
To know the right path or direction
The life of a Christian can be defined as a journey or walk. There are so many paths and routes we have to take before we can reach our final destination.
To walk on the right track, you need a map, and that map is the word of God.
Through Bible study, you will be able to know points A to Z. Not only that, but you will also know the off-limits paths and how to avoid them.
Reading the Word Daily will help you live a Pure Life
God expects his children to live differently from the world. To stay on the path of purity, you need to know what is pure in the eyes of the Lord.
In Psalm 119:9, we are told the way to live a pure life is by living according to the word of God.
Remember, those that are pure in heart will see God. Therefore, do not let the temporary pleasures of the world confuse you.
It is hard to remain pure, but the prize you get is higher than the temporary things of this world.
We get Wisdom and Understanding by Reading the Bible Daily
With many things happening in the world today, it is hard to know what to expect next. Life is becoming more confusing by the day.
Only the word of God can help us understand the issues of life and how to go about everyday life. (Proverbs 2:6)
We need wisdom and understanding so that we can succeed in our jobs, businesses, education, and families.
Note that while there’s a lot of knowledge out there, only the word of God can give us true wisdom.

The Word of God Strengthens us in Difficult Times
No matter how good life is right now, there will be times when you will go through challenges.
Maybe you are going through tough times now. You have been rejected, you’re fearful, or you feel like quitting. Or maybe your loved ones have turned against you.
Life is becoming unbearable and you’re almost giving up. Well, we have all been there at some point.
But don’t give up. Believe what the word of God says, even if things in the natural realm say otherwise. Stand firm in the promises of God and fight from the point of victory.
Doing so will help you to become strong in the inner being, and you will start experiencing breakthroughs.
Reading the Bible Brings Joy
There are those moments in life when we start our day, week, or month with burdens in our hearts. Nothing we hear or engage in brings joy in our hearts.
The methods world experts encourage us to use to be happy only work for a short time.
Reading the Bible daily will remove fear and anxiety and bring peace and joy to your heart. Do not turn to other things to find pleasure or joy when you are feeling discouraged.
Instead, turn to the word of God because you’ll find pure joy in it.
Helps you to become Successful
God knew what lay ahead for Joshua, so he gave him the key to success, and that was His word. God instructed Joshua to meditate on the law day and night, and not to turn from it.
By following the word of God, Joshua was able to lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land.
The world has many systems of attaining success, but God tells us his word will make us successful. Reading the Bible daily will help you to become successful in all your endeavors.
It has guidelines on how to run your business, manage your family, finances, emotions, and other issues of life.

Helps to Transform our Minds
The best way to experience change is by transforming your mind. Why is that? It is because you become what you think about all the time.
You can use other materials to transform your mind, but they will not bring real change. The word of God will bring true transformation because it is spirit and life.
Believing what scripture says and putting it into practice opens up doors for the Holy Spirit to transform your mind.
Romans 12:2 ” Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will”.
Reading the Bible daily will cause you to find freedom
Living in freedom is one of the great benefits of reading the Bible.
But while so many people seem free on the outside, the truth is most are living in bondage. We have allowed the world to define who we are and what we should do.
So we keep on living in bondage even though we know that Jesus has set us free.
Sad, right? To experience true freedom, you have to spend time studying the word of God.
Not just that, you need the Holy Spirit to help you understand scriptures so that you can find true freedom. (John 8:32)
The word of God helps us to remain hopeful
Most of the things we follow no longer make sense because we have to keep up with trends. Every single day something new is coming up, and you need to keep up.
But let’s be honest:
You cannot keep up with everything. Trying to do so will leave you feeling helpless and hopeless.
The good news:
The word of God provides hope to the hopeless. If you are going through a desperate situation right now, you need to turn to the word of God.
Feeling sorry for yourself may seem like the best option but it will not change anything.
David went through so many trials. Saul was after his life, and all things seemed to work against him. Although Samuel anointed him as king, David had to live in hiding and even feign madness for his safety.
Humiliating right?
But look, David always turned to God. He read and meditated on the word, day and night. As a result, he became encouraged in the Lord and in the end became a great king.
When going through hopeless situations, make reading the Bible a daily habit. Above all, find verses about hope and study them until they become alive in your heart.
It may take time for you to feel hopeful, but as time goes by you will start walking in victory.
Help you know the promises of God
Unlike other kinds of literature, the word of God is a powerful weapon that destroys the works of the enemy.
But here’s the thing:
You will not know how to fight the enemy if you do not know the promises of God.
Our Lord Jesus has already won the battle at the cross. But we need to cooperate with God for us to live victorious lives. How do we do that? By knowing the promises of God.
If the enemy is attacking your health, you need to know the promises for good health. If he is attacking your finances, then find promises about provision.
The same applies to security, relationships, and identity in Christ. Stand firm on the promises of God so that you can win the battle and walk in victory.
Build your faith
True Christians walk by faith and not by sight.
Faith is a spiritual muscle that needs to be stretched daily. It’s only through reading or hearing the word of God and practicing what it says that we build our faith. (Romans 10:17)
Instead of being fed by television and social media let God feed you with true spiritual food that never perishes.
It will help you know your identity in Christ
Let’s be honest; you cannot accomplish your purpose in life without knowing who you are. That is why we see so many successful people living with depression.
While most of these people seem to have it in life, they don’t have inner peace. Why? It is because they don’t know who they’re in Christ.
To know who you are and why you are here, you need to know who you’re in Christ.
Through reading the Bible daily, you will get to know what God says about you and why he created you. Knowing your true identity will also help you to live in victory.
You will only allow what God’s word says about you to define you and not what people say.
Help you become Spiritually Mature
One of the most important benefits of reading the Bible is spiritual maturity.
We are told in the Bible not only to be hearers of the word but to be doers also. Putting what we read in the Bible into practice helps us to become spiritually mature.
If you have been putting off Bible study and are wondering why you are not growing, you need to rethink. Start taking Bible study seriously because it is only in doing so that you will grow spiritually.
Reading the Bible will help you worship God in spirit and truth
Jesus told the Samaritan woman that true worshippers of God must worship him in spirit and truth. Why is that? God is a spirit. (John 4: 23-24)
But how do we worship in spirit and truth?
Studying the word daily and knowing what it says helps us to know more about Jesus. Not just that, but it also prepares us to go before God in true worship.
When we understand Jesus’ death on the cross our focus shifts from self to God.
Worship is not about music and entertainment. It is about honoring God for who he is and what he has done.
The Word of God will cleanse you
We are not of this world but, we are in this world. So we are going to be around people and situations that will poison our minds.
For that reason, you must cleanse yourself from all the dirt that enters your soul daily. The word of God is the cleaning agent that God has given to us. (Ephesians 5:26)
It will wipe out anxiety, fear, and unrighteousness and replace them with faith, courage, and righteousness.
Most noteworthy, the word of God cleanses us from a guilty conscience by reminding us of what Jesus did on the cross.
In conclusion:
Bible study may seem like a cliché in Christian circles. But, the benefits of reading the Bible cannot be ignored.
Every believer must make it a daily habit to study the word of God. The words written in the Bible are powerful, alive, and true. They bring freedom, transform our lives and above all help us to be successful.
Our hearts are deceitful but, God’s word helps us know what we should follow when making decisions. God expects us to live pure lives.
But, we cannot do that without his word. With so many lies being passed as truth today, every believer needs to read the word of God so that they can guard their hearts against the lies of the enemy.
