75 Major Benefits of Attending Church Regularly

Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch.

So for a whole year, Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. Acts 11:25-26 (NIV)

Attending church is a biblical pattern set forth for Christians by the first followers of Christ.

Back in Antioch, where the disciples of Jesus and the other followers of Christ would all gather weekly (and at times even daily) to worship God together.

Additionally, the Scripture has it that they would share community in one an other’s home.

Interestingly, the letters of Paul and the other apostles were sent to the church communities that always gathered in various cities to be read aloud in the presence of everyone.

Meanwhile, these gatherings gave birth to the church. Ironically, when the word church is mentioned, the first thing that often comes to the mind of many is a physical building.

So here comes a very crucial question.

What is a Church?

Usually, the word ‘Church’ refers to two things: converging with other believers to worship God, listen to Scriptures, and encourage one another; and the physical building where Christians gather as a body to worship and hear His Word.

Beyond being a worship place, the church is a community where we share common beliefs and support each other. This includes praying for one another, serving others, and being involved in each other’s lives, as emphasized in Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV).

In the Bible, “Church” is used in three ways: a church at home, where a group meets in someone’s house; a city or regional church, referring to believers in a specific area; and the universal church, encompassing all Christians past, present, and future.

In essence, the home church grows into a city or regional church, forming part of the universal church. Regardless of the size, the Bible commands us to meet regularly. Regular gatherings offer numerous spiritual and physical benefits, fostering a supportive and nurturing community.

Evidently, the benefits of attending church regularly are so overwhelmingly innumerable that no one would want to exempt him or herself from attending church regularly.

Perhaps you have not fully identified with a church, or you would have loved to attend church regularly, but you have not found one that suits you perfectly.

You do not need to worry about this as I have got you totally covered.

In the next part of this article, I am going to provide you with some vital things you need to look out for when searching for a good church for yourself.

How to Choose a Good Church

Choosing a great church is one of the most important decisions that some of us have made at different times in our lives.

It is undeniably true that the local church where we worship helps shape us, who we become, and especially our relationship with God. So the question here is, how do you find a church that is right for you?

Below, you will find some valuable pointers to help your search. But keep in mind that the first thing you must do is to commit it into the hands of the Holy Spirit so that He can lead you as you make this very important decision.

The following are the things you must look out for:

  • The Inerrancy of the Scripture;

The Bible is God’s word, and as such, its content should be taught and preached correctly – without misinterpretation.

Hence, when looking for a church, ensure the Bible is the main resource for both teachings and preaching in that place of worship.

Secondly, find out if they believe that God’s word is the final authority on every matter taught there.

  • A Place of Worship:

One of the reasons we go to church is to worship God, especially together with fellow members of the body of Christ.

An ideal church is one that teaches the essence of worship. As well as practices and encourages members to worship God, both individually and corporately

. You should, however, note that worship is not only about singing or sitting through a worship service. But a place where you can connect directly with God in every service.

In a nutshell, you should look out for strong elements of the culture of worship while choosing a church.

  • A Church That Encourages Discipleship:

A disciple of Christ is simply a follower of Jesus; and someone who is learning to become more like Him.

More so, an ideal church is always more concerned about growing its members than growing numerically. A church committed to equipping members to grow, especially spiritually, is a place to be.

  • A Place With Sound Doctrine:

Sound doctrine is a requirement for every Bible-believing Church. To find this out, you can simply take a look at the doctrinal statement of the church.

Interestingly, most churches have this on their website, so you can check out their website to see if its doctrinal statement agrees with the Scripture in every sense.

A sound doctrinal statement will mention these five very important topics: Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit); sin, salvation, the Bible, and the Church.

True Christian fellowship is nothing like a social gathering. It is a place where you will find encouragement, support, and guidance that will help you grow the way God wants you to.

Hence, you should look for a place of worship that encourages true fellowship in every service. Such a church is one where the love of Jesus thrives.

  • A Place Where There is Expositional Preaching:

First, expositional preaching refers to the most biblically recommended style of preaching. The major objective of this style of preaching is to make bare the meaning of God’s word.

Evidently, this will enable members of the congregation can apply them appropriately to their life.

So if you want to settle for a church, I urge you lookout for a place where the minister in charge always does expository preaching of God’s word.

  • A Church That Cares About Evangelism:

When choosing a church, ensure it is one that its primary calling is to preach the gospel to the unsaved.

A gospel-minded church proclaims the good news of Christ at all times so that those who are yet to believe in Jesus will have an opportunity to do so, and other believers can find encouragement and inspiration through it.

A church that is sincerely all about soul-winning and salvation is certainly one to consider.

The list above is certainly not an exhaustive one. However, the guide is more than sufficient to find a church that is the right fit for you.

Just as we are very far from perfect; there is also no perfect church anywhere. Therefore, when you find the right place of worship, stay there patiently and grow there.

Conclusion

Honestly, I always feel very blessed to be a part of a great church – which is the reason I am often very excited about two things: one is attending church frequently.

My second excitement comes from knowing  Christ, experiencing Him, and helping others to get excited about knowing Him, too.

How about you? What are your reasons for going to church? How has attending church regularly impacted or changed your life considerably?

Finally, you should probably share these benefits of attending church regularly with someone and get them to cultivate the habit of attending church regularly.
