7 Proven Ways to Find Joy in Jesus

Joy can be seen and described in many ways.

To some, it is the emotion that is evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.

To others, it is an emotion that is evoked when one gets something that works in favor of one’s dream or aspiration.

But to us as Christians, we have a kind of joy that is inherently in Jesus. Joy in Jesus is the immeasurable feeling of fulfillment we get from serving God.

It is beyond what we can describe. Call it the joy of salvation as the Psalmist called it or the undying feeling of fulfillment, and you’d be equally correct.

This is the kind of joy Habakkuk was talking about when he said “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation” Hab. 3:18.

Below are 7 Proven Ways to Find Joy in Jesus:

  1. Through Diligence in Kingdom Service

You see, when we are diligent in serving God, there is no mincing words that our joy will know no bounds.

The Bible mentioned in Proverbs 22:29, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings, he shall not stand before mean men”

What many Christians do not know is that sometimes, the joy we have in Christ is short-lived. But how is that?

Take King David for instance, he was one found of always thanking God for everything, bad or good.

It was clear he had that abundance of joy. However, few people actually know the reason why; he was diligent in his service to God.

If you want to experience that kind of Joy in Jesus, you have to release yourself totally to the service of God.

  1. Joy through Thanksgiving

This is another way that a Christian can keep his joy. In the book of Philippians 4:6 the bible says “Be careful for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving…”

Truth is, when you have a thankful heart towards God for all He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do, you cannot remain without joy.

Experiencing joy in Jesus is a natural consequence of thanksgiving. It doesn’t matter what you want to pray for, do it all in thanks.

Just like the book of Colossians 2:7 said, “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving”.

  1. Through Faith and Belief in God

There is a kind of Joy that you experience when you have all your faith and belief in God.

It is that total dependence in the one who created you, knowing that with Him you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

The Bible made us understand that Abraham, though had not gotten the promise, was a joyful man. You know why? Because he had faith in God.

Hebrews 11:8 recounts how that happened, “By faith Abraham when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”

The world called it foolishness, he called it faith. Here’s the deal – it doesn’t matter what other people say about your faith and belief in God; just allow them to see the joy you emanate as a result.

  1.  Through Praise

This is another way to keep your joy in Christ. Non-stop praise! David is a very good example.

He was always praising God for the things he has done, things he will do and the things he is doing. David was a man who knew the importance attached to praise and always filled with joy.

In the book of Psalms 100:4, the bible said, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with Praise. Be thankful unto him, and bless his name”.

Also, David recounts in Psalms 9:2, “I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvelous works” This is the secret to experiencing unending joy in Jesus – praise!

  1.  Through Love

Love in the Christian faith is the greatest commandment of all. Love defines who we are as believers. In fact, Love gave birth to our faith as seen in John 3: 16, “For God so love the world…”

However, this love has four elements to it that guarantee our joy in Christ. These elements include; listening to God, obeying His commandments, valuing the service you are doing in Christ, and staying encouraged in Christ that no matter how hard the times, His promises will surely come to pass.

Now, you not just encourage yourself, but also encourage others in Christ. You have no idea how far that can go in restoring a lost soul.

This is the kind of love that Jesus had for us, “…for while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us…”

  1. Joy from a Positive Attitude

Do you know there is more to having a positive attitude? Yes, there is an unending stream of joy that accompanies the fact that within you, you always want to do good for people.

Your thoughts towards others are pure. You are genuinely interested in seeing others happy and fulfilled.

Just like God’s thoughts towards us are great and positive, so we likewise ought to think towards others. Psalms 139:17 says, “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!”

That is exactly how God thinks towards us; thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us an expected end.

  1. The joy that comes from His Word

God’s word does more than piercing through the bones and marrows and the intents of the heart.

God’s love is a soothing relief in times of trouble. It is the light that shines through our path as Christians, making a way where there is no way.

When this word fills our heart, it brings a joy that knows no bound. Jesus said John 14: 17, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.

I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. He was talking about His word.
