7 Great Life Transforming Spiritual Habits

Spiritual habits are pretty much similar to the everyday habits that we exhibit as individuals.

Just like regular habits are the building blocks to changing our lives, spiritual habits help change our spiritual lives.

Habits are powerful, they define your thoughts, words, and actions.

Ultimately, they determine whether you end up as a failure or a success along your chosen path.

This goes to justify that there are certain habits that can set you up for success and vice versa.

These habits can be learned. They are not instinctive. It is not difficult either.

In fact, if you could learn the habit of reading (which is why you’re reading this article right now), you can learn spiritual habits that’d change your life drastically.

Now, don’t get it twisted; the fact that they are called ‘spiritual habits’ doesn’t make them hard to learn.

Below are 7 spiritual habits that are sure to transform your life forever.

  1. Make the Word of God Your Compass

The word of God is powerful. In fact, Apostle Paul described it in Hebrews 4:12 as quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”

Winning the Christian race as believers requires we use God’s word as our compass. It is the manufacturer’s guide to good living.

This is why cultivating the spiritual habit of studying the word is one of the best ways to transform your life. It opens your eyes to spiritual mysteries that make the journey smooth and enjoyable.

  1. Walk by the Spirit

Truth is, our sinful nature as mere mortals craves a lot of things that would not give glory to God. But when we walk by/in the spirit, we learn to know and hear God more.

We are attentive to the spirit and allows him a guide us every step.

I love how the NLT version of Galatians 5:16 puts it, So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the sons of God. This is an assurance we get when we walk by the spirit.

The bible said, “God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.”

This shows that this spiritual habit is one of the most important habits of our lives as believers.

  1. Love Unconditionally

Love is what defines us as believers. Literally, we are a product of Love. Think about this for a moment. What if God didn’t love us as much to let His only Son die for us on the cross?

Could you imagine what it’d have been like? Perhaps, we will be killing rams every single time we sin. I can’t imagine that kind of life. But even while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

That is unconditional love. It didn’t matter whether we were qualified for it or not. It was a decision. Love is a decision.

Also, this spiritual habit should not just be about our immediate families; it should extend to other people around us as well.

1 John 4:16 says it all, And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

  1. Pray Without Ceasing

The power of prayer and the need for prayer cannot be overemphasized. Prayer is how we communicate with God.

It is how we tender our request and challenge God on His promises (Isaiah 45:11). If we must transform our lives as believers, this spiritual habit is key.

Corrie Ten Boom once asked, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”  I think prayer should be like your steering wheel as a believer.

It shouldn’t be what you need to do once in a blue moon; it should be what you use and do every single time, like the steering wheel.

  1. Total Trust in God

Putting your trust and confidence in someone you can see is hard work already. Talk more about putting your complete trust in someone you can’t see.

Now, let’s flip the switch. Do you know God trusts you more than you know it?

He trusted you with that amazing partner; that you are capable of taking care of him/her. He trusted you with that job/business.

He trusted you with those kids; that you can raise them to become agents of change in society.

Now, if God trusts you that much, what would it cost you to trust Him in return?

In His best-selling book, 7 Spiritual Habits That Will Change Your Life, Adam Houge said it in a more profound way, “By pressing hard into Christ, you have a security in your salvation.

Never will you be in the question of whether ‘you will make it or not’. But you will always know with the utmost confidence that when you breathe your last, you will be going home.”

  1. A Heart of Worship and Appreciation

A heart of worship is a heart full of thanksgiving. It is a heart of praise. A heart of appreciation.

It is a heart that looks up for no reason and says, “God, thank you!” Let’s not forget that worship as a spiritual habit was one of the things that made David a man after God’s heart.

Besides, worship helps our worry and how we feel towards God.

World-famous and bestselling author, Rick Warren said in his book, The Purpose of Christmas, “The more you pray, the less you’ll panic.

The more you worship, the less you worry. You’ll feel more patient and less pressured.”

  1. Share God’s Word with Others

This is the greatest commission of all as believers; sharing the good news of the gospel to the ends of the earth.

You may want to say ‘this should be the pastors only’, but the mandate as given by Jesus wasn’t specifically for the Pastors.

He said in Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

The spiritual habit of sharing God’s word shows you’re not selfish with the good news. It means you want others to enjoy the joy and peace that comes from genuine salvation.

As you commit to these 7 spiritual habits, I pray that your life will be transformed in ways you never imagined.
