13 Great Benefits of Living for God

God desires that we live lives that are pleasing to Him.

Meanwhile, to live for God simply means that we’re walking according to His precepts and staying in the path He has planned for us.

This basically means that we’re no longer living for ourselves nor accomplishing the things we desire or want.

There are tremendous gains in store when we choose to stay on this path, in spite of the discouragements, riddles, and persecution that will likely come because of our decision.

So, what are the top major  benefits of living for God?

Extraordinary, purposeful, fulfilling, and divinely protected life awaits everyone that lives for God.

The truth is, to live for yourself instead of God is tantamount to merely existing in this world instead of, truly living.

Fulfillment in life is only attained when we ensure that we’re at the center of God’s will. Unfortunately, this can only happen when we live for God.

Moreover, God is the true essence of life. In other words, when we find Him, we find life and vice versa.

Finding God and living for Him settles our present and future especially, our God-given purpose. Put differently, we only discover purpose by finding God and living for Him.

Why should we live for God?

Because we live in darkness and are heading toward doom (eternal death). However, He has ultimately created a plan to bring every one of us out of darkness and into His marvelous light (life in Christ).

God sent His Son, Jesus Christ who had no sin but was perfect in every sense to die for us. He laid the judgment and punishment for our sins on His Son Jesus and they crucified Him on a cross that we deserved.

That’s not all, He conquered death by resurrecting. Hence, God through His Son offered us forgiveness in place of judgment, and life instead of death.

Jesus first gave His life for us because He loved us even while we were still sinners. What can be better than such great love and sacrifice? Hence, this is the reason we should live for God, without Him we’ll merely be existing.

What are the great Benefits of Living for God?

God rewards every one of us according to our deeds. It’s no wonder Galatians 6:7-8 says, Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

In other words, God always rewards those who love and live for Him with an overwhelming amount of goodness but righteous judgment on those who refuse to live for Him.

Apart from the above, those who live for God have an immeasurable supply of God’s abundance of goodness, mercy, divine provision, and much more.

Moreover, we only do a lot of harm when we decide to go our own way. The result will be an unfulfilled and purposeless life, here on earth, and eternal suffering in hell.

The top 13 benefits of living for God are:

  1. Redemption from destruction
  2. Peace and unspeakable joy
  3. Daily renewal of strength and vigor
  4. Divine protection and deliverance from evil
  5. A purposeful and fulfilling life
  6. Long life
  7. An abundance of divine provision
  8. Divine direction and guidance
  9. God’s unending mercy and grace
  10. Divine help in the time of trouble
  11. Justice when oppressed
  12. Divine favor
  13. Entering into God’s eternal rest

How can we access these blessings?

  1. Redemption from destruction:

Part of the privileges that we get to enjoy is total redemption from the eternal death we would have eventually met if we had gone our way and never looked back.

Romans 6:23 puts this very clearly. It says, for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Living for God exempts us from the death and destruction that will come up in this world at the end of time.

  1. Peace and Unspeakable joy:

Peace is simply a state of inner contentment, while joy is basically a state of great delight and happiness.

Peace comes from God as well as joy. These two are exclusively reserved for those who have an intimate relationship with God and live for Him daily.

The Holy Spirit abundantly provides us with a great measure of peace and joy when we truly follow Him without reservation.

Romans 14:16-17 says, Let not then your good be evil spoken of. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

This is evidently the reason we’re often not overwhelmed when we encounter some stressful or troubling situations that would naturally drive an average person on the edge or push such into anxiety or depression.

We surprisingly have God’s word in Philippians 4:7 play out in our lives at troubling times.

It says,  and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  1. Daily renewal of strength and vigor:

There are several places in the scripture where God clearly reminds us that our strength won’t fail us when we live for Him. Joshua 14:10a-11 is one of such places.

It says, So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.

This was Joshua speaking at the age of eighty-five years. Thus, the renewal of our physical strength is one of the special benefits that we enjoy when we live for God.

  1. Divine protection and deliverance from evil:

The world we live in is filled with evil vices but these are not for those who are divinely protected by God.

He guarantees our safety from danger and evil because no harm can come our way while our lives are under His watchful eyes; except when He permits any to come our way.

And where that is the case, He is far more than able to deliver us as He did for the three Hebrew boys (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) in the book of Daniel 3:12-30.

  1. 5.  Purposeful and fulfilling life:

It’s important to note that fulfillment in life is not defined by a person’s achievements, but the completion of his or her God-given assignment on earth.

Meanwhile, fulfillment in life through purposeful living is only found in God because He is the giver of purpose and not just life. He’s also the only one who helps us discover our true purpose in life, He helps us to walk in it as well as fulfill it.

Unfortunately, those who choose to live for themselves instead of for God miss out on living fulfilling lives.

Consequently, no one lives without God and discovers his or her divinely assigned purpose because that and the fulfillment are impossible without God.

  1. Long life:

God has promised to satisfy all who live for Him with long life. In other words, we don’t need to be afraid of the evil and dangers that confront us daily.

Neither should we be afraid of death because God will never permit that to happen to those who live for Him, except it’s His will.

  1. An abundance of divine provision:

God constantly makes divine supplies available to us when we live for Him. He is the God who feeds the birds of the air, the wild beasts, and everything He created.

Everyone enjoys God’s general goodness however, He takes special care of our needs when we live for Him. In other words, God meets our needs as they arise, even far beyond our expectations.

Therefore, we’re assured of an abundance of divine provision (see Psalm 23:1 and Isaiah 1:19).

  1. Divine direction and guidance:

God is the creator of the entire universe. He knows us well, He knows our past, present, and future.

Hence, He remains the best person to provide us with the best kind of guidance and direction we’ll ever need in life.

Meanwhile, we can rest assured that His direction or guidance will never lead us into errors or mistakes. Nevertheless, these benefits are for those who live for Him.

  1. God’s unending mercy and grace:

God’s grace is clearly a gift we don’t deserve, mercy, on the other hand, is not getting the punishment we truly deserve for our sins.

The truth is, we’re all recipients of God’s mercy and grace but the measure in which we receive these greatly increases when we start living according to His precepts.

Grace and mercy are without a doubt God’s ultimate expression of love for us.

  1. Divine help in the time of trouble:

Just as a father would naturally come to the rescue of his son who’s in trouble, so does God come to our rescue when we live for Him.

He’s our helper in the time of trouble, our shelter from the rain, and a father that we can totally rely on for almost everything.

  1. Justice when oppressed:

God detests injustice and oppression. That’s the reason Exodus 14:14 says, The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Hence, He goes into battle for those who are His. He will fight everything or whoever oppresses those who live for Him.

  1. Divine favor:

Favor is one of the innumerable benefits that we enjoy when we live for God.

God is full of goodness and nothing gives Him more pleasure than showering us with an abundance of blessings when we find ourselves living for Him.

Entering into God’s eternal rest:

This is perhaps the greatest benefit that we’ll ever enjoy as those who consciously chose to live for God.

At the end of this age, God will grant us eternal rest in His bosom, a place where there will be no more pain, pestilence, shame, lack, sorrow, or death. These will be the portion of everyone who sticks with God to the very end.

Not living for God leads to:

  • The absence of God’s protection.

Anybody who lives outside of God’s protective power is constantly exposed to the dangers posed by this world.

While the believer (someone living for God) rides on the wings of victory in Christ Jesus because He is more than a conqueror.

  • The absence of peace

John 14:27 says: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

The God kind of peace that Christ was talking of here isn’t meant for those who don’t know Him but for those who do.

  • Lack of divine direction

To live for God is to walk with Him. A carnal man will certainly live and walk in error and mistakes due to the absence of divine direction.

  • Eternal damnation

Not living for God will eventually take one to hell. A place where there is no rest from the fire or the torment.

How to live for God

Christ gave His life for us so that we’ll have abundant life. Living For Him is far more meaningful and rewarding than living for ourselves.

If you’re sincere to yourself, you’ll answer this question honestly.  What exactly are the things that are keeping you away from really living for God?

Is choosing them over your life and eternal destination a wise decision? You need to re-evaluate your priorities and make a wiser decision.

Study and meditate on God’s word with an open heart. Make use of simple personal Bible study tools as well as commentaries. In order to learn  how to live effectively, you can do the following:

  • Repent and reconcile with God
  • Prayer without ceasing
  • Read Christian materials for spiritual growth
  • Join a Bible-believing church
  • Follow Christ with all your heart
  • Study the Bible daily
  • Love others
  • Fast whenever you are led
  • Be forgiving, tolerant, and patient
  • Encourage others
  • Tell others about Jesus

Conclusion

We’ll only be able to walk effortlessly in God’s divine plan for us when we live and walk with Him. It’s practically impossible to successfully focus on two different directions at the same time.

Therefore, be beware of those things that stand in the way of your living for God. In all, remember that the only key to a fulfilling life lies in truly living for God.
