These are some of the questions that some Christians struggle with.

The truth is:

It’s easy to tell people to trust God, but it’s difficult to actually do it. At times we find it easy to handle bad situations than to trust Him.

Trusting God is not something that just happens. It takes time, just like other relationships.

Studying the word and praying fervently helps us know God more, which helps us trust Him. And even then, there are those seasons that we will find ourselves struggling to do so.

If you’re struggling to trust God, then this post is for you. We’re going to discuss in detail why it is important for believers to trust God.

So let’s begin:

Why Trusting God is Important

1. Trusting God helps us to Focus on Him

It is difficult to focus on someone or something you don’t trust. As a matter of fact, we don’t pay much attention to something we don’t trust unless we have no option.

When we trust God, it becomes easier for us to focus on Him. Though other things may call for our attention, we continue to focus on Him. But why should we focus on God, you may ask?

Everything falls into place when you focus on your heavenly Father. He will direct and provide for you.

2. Trusting  God is a Sign of Obedience

God tells us to trust in Him with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. This means that God expects us to trust in him no matter what happens.

We need to believe every word He tells us. And know that whatever He has promised us will come to pass no matter how long it takes. So when we trust in God, we are actually obeying Him.

3. We become a Testimony to others

Trusting God is not just about you. There are people in this world, believers and non-believers alike that are watching you. They want to see the lengths to which you can go in your walk with God.

Some are looking at you with hopes that you’ll fail. But there are those who look at you as their source of inspiration. And so they look at you for inspiration as they deal with different challenges in life.

When we trust God and follow what He tells us, we become a testimony to others. Whatever you’re going through right now is going to be a testimony to others.

The time will come when you’ll share your testimony with someone that is facing the same challenge you’re facing right now.

Trusting God is important because it enables our breakthroughs to be testimonies to others. Keep trusting God because you’ll comfort others with the same comfort He is giving you in these troubling times. (2Corinthians 1:3-4)

4. We stop believing the Lies of the Enemy.

As long as you’re focused on your problems, the enemy will lie to you and control your life. That is why God encourages us in His word to trust in Him fully.

The more you’re focused on God, the more you trust Him. Believing the lies of the enemy becomes harder when you trust God fully.

Yes, the enemy will try so hard to fight you and to put wrong thoughts in your mind.

There will also be a time of testing where God will put you to the test just like He did Abraham (Genesis 22:2). But you will stick to the word of God and follow His voice because you trust God.

5. Trusting God gives Him full Access to our Lives.

When you do not trust God and choose to lean on your own understanding, you are in essence saying, ‘God, you can’t, but I can.’ You’re also saying that God is limited. And you’re just better off doing things your way because you know more than He does.

But when you trust God, you’re actually saying, “Father God, I can’t, but you can. So I’m giving you full access to my life to do with it whatever you please.”

6. Blocks the Devil’s Agenda for our Lives.

From the time that we are born, the devil starts planning his agenda for our lives. Why? So that he can block us from becoming the people God created us to be. As we grow up, he lies to us to conform to the patterns of this world.

It’s important for us as believers to trust God so that He can block the devil’s plan for our lives. The way God has plans for our lives is how the devil also has plans for our lives.

So he starts to attack our identity from childhood, and we end up believing wrong things about ourselves and others.

For, example the enemy may use bullies to make you fearful. Or you may grow up around parents or teachers who constantly put you down. And when you become an adult, you end up looking down on yourself and sabotaging your success because of fear.

Satan wants to use us to advance His Kingdom on earth because he knows his time is limited. We need to be very careful not to end up being his puppets. That is why our hope and trust need to always be on the Lord.

7. God Rewards You.

Another great reason why is it important to trust God is He rewards us.

Did you know that God rewards our patience? When you go through a lot of challenges but remain faithful to God, He rewards you. God will not only answer your prayers, but he will also reward you for your patience.

So do not fret when you see other people, especially the wicked prospering. Do not compare your life to other people. Just because they seem to be succeeding while you are failing doesn’t mean God has forgotten about you.

Keep on trusting in God no matter how long it takes. When the time is right, He will show up in a mighty way.

8. Enables God to keep his Covenant.

From Genesis to Revelation, we see a faithful God. One that keeps His covenant with those who trust in Him.

But like any other agreement, the two parties need to keep their side of the agreement. So as much as God keeps His covenant, we also need to keep our own side of the covenant.

And that means trusting in God and knowing that He’s going to watch over His words and fulfill them. It also means trusting Him as He takes us through different processes and tests.

If we do not trust in God, then He is not obligated to keep His covenant to us. So trust God, knowing that without faith, you cannot please Him (Hebrews 11:6). And thus, you’ll not enjoy the special blessings He has for those who trust in Him.

9. Enables you to enjoy God’s Protection.

We need God’s protection and that is why is it important to trust God.

In Psalms 91, we’re told if we make God our dwelling and our refuge, then no harm will befall us. And no disaster will come near our dwelling places.

So we can say that God’s protection is determined by our trust in Him. Someone cannot make God their dwelling if they don’t trust Him in the first place.

You need to make God your dwelling place. And your source of refuge for Him to protect you from all kinds of danger.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were protected by God because they trusted in Him. When the Nebuchadnezzar threatened to throw them in the fiery furnace, they told him to go ahead.

Their God would save them, and even if He didn’t, they were not going to bow down to the image. See, they were not willing to give up on God to please a man. They trusted God even though it meant losing their lives. (Daniel 3:16-28)

As believers, we need to be bold like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And to trust that God will come through for us amid our own fiery furnace.

10. God will give you the Desires of your Heart.

We all have those things that we desire. Things that we want God to fulfill in our lives. But are you trusting him with all your heart? Or are you leaning on your own understanding and trying to help Him answer your prayers?

You need to trust in God with all your heart. Stop trying to do things your way or the way others are doing. Believe that God will grant you all the desires of your heart, and when you do that, God will surely come through for you.

11. He will keep you from Stumbling

The truth is we cannot walk perfectly in our own strength. Even if you are spiritually mature, you need God to overcome the schemes of the enemy. And all the lustful things that are in this world.

When you trust God, He strengthens and enables you to overcome the challenges that life throws at you. When the children of Israel stopped trusting God and started worshipping other gods, they stumbled in their ways.

This, in turn, opened doors for their enemies to attack and take them captive.

The same is true about us. When we stop looking to God and choose to do things our way, we end up stumbling and falling. This opens doors for the enemy in our lives. As time goes on, we find ourselves living in bondage.

The good news is a righteous man can stumble seven times, but He will be able to get up and continue in the ways of the Lord (Proverbs 24:16).

In case you got caught up and stopped trusting God, don’t give up. As long as you can breathe, you’ve another chance to make things right between you and God.

12. We are made Righteous.

Our Christian walk starts with trust. Without trusting God, there is no way you’re going to believe that He gave up His only Son for us. So there has to be some level of trust, even though it may be small, for us to build our relationship with God.

So the first step to trusting God is accepting Jesus Christ as your savior and Lord. When you do that, you become righteous before God. But you don’t stop there; you need to grow as a Christian.

That is why you are encouraged to read the word and pray. The more you know God, the easier it becomes to trust your heavenly Father.

13. We will be filled with Peace.

Do you want to walk in peace? Tired of living a life full of anxiety, fear, and doubt? Turn to God and trust in His word. Trust in His promises and His son Jesus Christ.

When we choose to trust God, we end up being filled with peace that surpasses all understanding. This is the same peace Jesus had when He walked in this world.

No matter what Jesus went through, He knew that His father had His back. And so He did not fear the Pharisees or anyone that tried to harm Him. His trust was in God. Jesus knew that no one would harm Him until crucifixion time.

We can only be confident and walk in this same peace when we put our trust in God. We should live knowing the Lord is our shield and refuge.

Maybe you’re wondering why is it important to trust God.

Well, trusting God isn’t for His good but for our own good. There are so many blessings we get to enjoy when we trust God. We end up living in peace and becoming a testimony to others when we trust God.

God keeps us from stumbling, protects us, and rewards us for trusting Him and being faithful to the end.

You may be struggling a lot right now to trust God. But know that it will work out for your own good in the end. You may be walking in a fiery furnace like Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego. But know that God will show up at the right time.

Remember, we serve a faithful God. Despite what we face each day, we should always focus on his faithfulness. And know that He’ll come through no matter how long it takes.
