History of Our Daily Bread Ministries.
Our Daily Bread Ministries was founded in 1938 by M. R. DeHaan. It started out as a radio program known as the Detroit Bible Class.
DeHaan had a firm commitment to ministry and his heart-felt Bible teachings undoubtedly got the attention of listeners in Detroit and many other places.
In recent times, the number of subscribers has increased to millions from all over the world. Earlier in 1994, the organization changed its name from Radio Bible Class to RBC Ministries.
Evidently, this was to reflect the growth of the wide range of services and resources being offered. Later in 2015, the name was changed again to Our Daily Bread Ministries.
This was largely influenced by the name of its flagship publication — Our Daily Bread. Most people recognize this organization by the name of that devotional. Hence, the name was adopted.
While the name has been changed, the ministry’s focus, however, remains unchanged. Over the years, it has become a Christian non-denominational. And a non-profit organization, with staff/volunteers in over 38 offices.
Who are all undeniably working together to distribute more than 60 million resources in over 150 countries. Currently, its signature publication, Our Daily Bread is in 58 languages.
About The Founder.
Dr M. R. DeHaan is the founder of Our Daily Bread Ministries. He had an encounter that eventually produced Our Daily Bread Ministries.
Something remarkable happened at a time when he had a major crisis as a physician. He was suffering severely due to a violent reaction to medical treatment.
Consequently, he cried out to God who answered that heart-felt prayer and eventually spared his life God. He specifically promised to serve God for the rest of his life.
Indeed, Dr DeHaan equally followed through on his promise. Firstly, he did this by selling his medical practice, home, and office equipment. Secondly, he joined the Western Theological Seminary.
Thereafter, he began as a Pastor teaching Bible classes and broadcasting half-hour programs on the radio. Surprisingly, these programs successfully reached national networks.
Moreover, by the time of his death in 1965, the reach had expanded to about 600 stations worldwide.
Although Dr DeHaan began this ministry in his basement as a family operation, it is remarkable that his vision. And founding principles have continued through the generations.
After his death, his son, Richard became his successor. Likewise, his grandsons, Mart and Rick, have diligently continued to grow the ministry to what it is today.

Statement of Faith.
We believe:
- The Bible is the inspired revelation of God, accurate in all it affirms. And our only authoritative rule for faith and practice.
- In one God in three persons–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Our Lord Jesus Christ is the promised Jewish Messiah, Savior of the world, fully God and full man.
- In our Savior’s sacrificial death for us, in fulfilment of the Scriptures, as complete payment for our sin.
- We believe in our Savior’s bodily resurrection from the grave on the third day. Followed 40 days later by His ascension to the Father.
- In forgiveness and everlasting life, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
- We believe in independence on the Holy Spirit for a life of grateful service to God and others.
- In one international church made up of all who are in Christ, expressed through local congregations.
- We believe in readiness for the return of our Lord to gather His church to HiHimse. To fulfil His promises to Israel, and to judge the living and the dead.
